Palo Santo, known as "holy wood," originates from the forests of Peru, Ecuador, Guatemala, and Mexico. Its use as incense traces back to Indigenous peoples of Central and South America. Peruvians traditionally harvested fallen branches and twigs from the Bursera graveolens tree, burning them like incense to spiritually cleanse energy. Shamans utilized Palo Santo for grounded and clearing energy. This non-endangered species in the Burseraceae family, akin to frankincense, is revered for its woodsy, fragrant aroma and is frequently employed to purify spaces, objects, and individuals.
